One Year of The Assist

April 7th marked one year of The Assist. It's kind of crazy when I type it out and read it again. I really didn’t think I would take the leap and bet on myself, but here we are. I’ve compiled a few thoughts of lessons learned over the last 12 months:

Your Network is Your Networth

Over the course of my professional career and across several sectors, I have been fortunate to meet and keep in touch with individuals that I have crossed paths and worked alongside of. I have leaned on them for advice, expertise, and recommendations in my own business journey and it has been extremely helpful as I navigate the waters of entreprenuership.

Get Your Books in Order Early

One lesson I learned while working for Central Current as its Chief of Staff is how important it was to work alongside your bookkeeper, CPA, and treasurer to establish the best financial practices for your business. Document and save those receipts. This is an area where it pays to be extremely detailed.

Establish Your Systems and Processes As You Grow

It may not be apparent when you first start off because you’re a team of one, but as you begin to build out your business, make note of what goes into those areas and document. It could be as simple as creating a Word document, labeling it, and adding a few detailed bullet points as you go.

Schedule Non-Negotiables on the Calendar

I cannot stress this bullet enough. Make time to schedule something that you enjoy outside of your work. For me, it’s getting back into my 5am work outs and multiple walks with Franklin when he isn’t spending the day with his dad up at Syracuse University.

Stay Hydrated and Eat Balanced Meals

Gosh, this is so hard sometimes, I am not even going to lie.
